Good evening! Ive been wondering about which tilapia to get and why. Please help!
I also came across this site tilapiafarmingathome.com. Is this something i want to get into, or should i just buy my fingerlings locally and not worry about having breeders? Also, is this guy legit? Are his prices reasonable? Has anyone here done business with him? Would you recommend any others?

I havent purchased any tilapia for those guys but did from tilapadepo.. I have to say their packing was terrible lost 25 out of 100 red and white fry because they were stuck in the folds of the bag and out of water.
all 50 blue fingerling were in one way too small bag which leaked and caused the heat packs to be uselss(cold water stress them).The water was so foul. None were doa but I have had them for a month now and they have been the most problematic sicky fish I have ever owned.Most likely never could get over bacterial infection from fouled water or parasites( I have run 100-300 tanks of tropical fish over the last 20 years,have 100 tanks currently). They are all getting culled.. The red and white niles , which are supose to be less hardy ,are fine. I called tilipia depo for advise no help there did offer to sell me more at 1/2 price No thanks

I have more white nile coming from White brook.( each strain is boxed and shipped individualy with shipping at $89 per box makes it too expensive.. we will see how that goes..
I will also be buying some from"I love tilapia" soon we will see how that goes too..

As a person who sells and ship fish I know how fish should be packed for shipping and I didnt ask how they packaged fish for shipping.(dummy me) So my advice to you ask!!The box should be styrofoam, the bags should be apporiate size for amount of fish, double bagged,the mil thickness is important. People think that one thick bag is better then 2 thin bags .. thick bags create big folds when the top is gathered which fry will get stuck in when water sloshes or the box gets turned over in transit) . .Depending on size of box 1-3 heat packs (72 hour heat pack if transport will take more then 2 days
and Ask around on the forums to see who has luck with whos fish
