Do you think 1 or 2 barra would be ok to pop into a Sump Tank?
What sort of depth would they need to have as a minimum?
Would they be ok with the rise and fall of water levels?

Not sure if this applies but I put yabbies in one of my sumps. I run a siphon/flood and drain system.

When ever the bed drained it stirred the water up so much it was pushing them all over the place - poor little buggers.

How deep is your sump and how much fluctuation does it have?

It's 400L
If all 3 beds fill at the same time it can have about 150L left in it.

With all three beds full at the same time what is the depth of the water in the sump?

I'm in South Australia, I've read of people doing Barra in Summer and Trout in winter here.
I'll force all 3 beds to fill at the same time and take a measure. But on a guess I would say about 12-15cm.
It's basically a chop 2 so there is a constant flow coming into the ST from the FT also.

Barra like clean water... I wouldn't be push the shit from the fish tank.... into the sump tank.. and then pumping some of it back to the fish tank...

And a small volume of water... in the sump tank... is going to warm, and cool... quickly... stressing the Barra...

P.S.... if you were going to do Barra... you should have had them in end of OCtober @ 100mm+...

Too late to try them now IMO.... unless you get a hot summer (I think we will)... and are prepared to heat them end of April...

I run a filter between the FT and ST.
It is very rare that all 3 beds line up and end up filling to the maximum level at the same time but because it is possible I figured that I would quote the extreme.

It get's extremely hot here in summer. We can get weeks that are 40+ although I don't intend to heat the water so it looks like I will skip them this time around.
