I have sent livefish an email so I will see what they say... but it is a bugger about the fish shop here... I thought they would look good in with the bream, although more research tells me that it may not be such a good idea, unless they are same size.

You must have a permit to have silver perch. The regulations are that no one can sell you silver perch unless you show your permit first. To bring perch in from Qld would fall under the same restriction, if not possibly more restrictions due to translocation regulations.

It's stupid *frack* up shit... Someone can go in and buy half a dozen carp or tilapia or anyone of a dozen other fish that can cause major problems in waterways.. But the silver perch, which is already in hundreds of farm dams around the state, now has a management plan, and you can't even buy them.. Theoretically..

So even the guy in Bagingara or in Hamel will ask for a permit? That would put a fairly large spanner in the works.

Theoretically everyone must ask to see your permit, or they risk losing their own license.. But I'm sure you can get the fish from somewhere without too many questions asked.. Probably best not to mention who they are on a public forum though..

Lefty, I wouldnt bother with the Brown Trout as:
1. I know of only one hatchery that does them and they dont do very many. Its virtually impossible to get any from them especially at the time of year you want them and the numbers you want.
2. Brown Trout are very slow growing and you would be struggling to get them to pan size before summer came. Some of the ones I have kept before put on only 2 grams of weight in 6 months where as the Rainbows over the same period put on between 200 - 300gms.

I agree with you EB, it is crazy the restrictions they have on Silver Perch over here especially considering that most of the Eastern States natives (Murray Cod, Silver and Golden Perch) were released into many of our waters in the late 1800s and yet none exist in those waters today. The fisheries argue that they need to protect the natural Marron Fishery from these fish yet most marron waters are full of the introduced pest Redfin Perch whose main diet seems to be marron, yet they havent even tried to erradicate them.

It is interesting to note though that Silver Perch (up to 3kilos) have turned up in a couple of public waters over the last couple of years. Its also interesting to note that one of those waters is deemed as a trophy Marron Water in the fisheries dept rule book for fishing for marron so they obviously havent had an impact on marron numbers in that water.

I figure I will need some help with this one.
http://www.ministers.wa.gov.au/ford/index.cfm
Minister Jon R Ford
email addy
jon-ford@dpc.wa.gov.au
In western australia this is the person to email, talk to, hassle.

I will over the next period allocate some time to Lobby the minister.
Now to lobby means show good reasons for changing a piece of legislation
so angst wont help but logical passive persuasion(?) will further the quest of BYA,
I am thinking of starting a petition(only a thought) and would welcome constructive comment.

Ok, who ended up getting some SP.
Looks like I now need some more considering I just killed half of the last lot.

I will be in for 100, but will have to be some time next week. Anyone else interested in a bulk order?

EB - did you end up getting some more SP from "your" guy?
