Thanks guys, yes a net would be the obvious solution however was wondering if there was a less disruptive technique given that I have a 1500L tank. I don't know... was thinking of a more osmotic process that would lead all the fish to a location for easier extraction. Given trout are loving their food maybe this would lead them out of one location temporarily to remove the other. Having one of those days. :support:

Charlie I will post a pic later as unable to at the moment, however the system is pretty much a BYAP courtyard system but with a 1500L tank. Could I put an IBC beside it some how and pump the water back wards and forwards?

You could put a IBC next to your GB and run it CHIFT PIST would be one option.

Maybe have a look through TCLinx thread on system diagrams for ideas.

Catching them in a 1500L FT can be a pain in the butt. I would say hold your net under the water....throw some feed in and wait....pull up net and you should get a few like that, repeat over a few days to minimise stress. It would be best to have your other FT on line first then you could take your time.

The partition I made it was quite easy as all my SP cry over to one side so I just droped it in and secured it. Although I had that set up before the trout arrived.

My partition cost around $40 to make but setting up another FT will cost more so you need to give it some thought.

Read my mind on the IBC. What I was thinking of doing was to pump from 1500L tank to IBC and to then have an SLO transfer back to the 1500L tank. Will also check out the CHIFT PIST setup as well.

The trick to catching may be harder given that I would put the SP in the IBC and leave the trout in the 1500L.

Thanks for your thoughts Charlie.

In a sense, the IBC will pick up and deposit into the FT, however the main water change will be going on between the FT and GB. The IBC will just be a side line tank that will borrow and deposit into the larger system.

Having said all that, can someone direct me to a good site to look at building plans for an SLO. Have seen it all in action, just need some good blueprints!

If you read through the whole thread you should get a good idea.. there are some more diagrams elsewhere too, just have to find em..

That is CHIFT PIST mate, Constant Height In Fish Tank (IBC) Pump In Sump Tank (1500L tank). Treat your 1500L FT as your sump which will have the pump in it which feeds your IBC that has a SLO that feeds the GB. If you swap your GB's to CF then there will be no fluctuation of water in your sump. The added benifit of the extra water is you will have more temp stability aswell. Your species are seperated...prob solved.

Have a flick through Arbe's system he made a really good SLO with some good photo's on his system developement. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=8529
