I am working on setting up my first system. I live in northern california, so I have limited options for edible fish.
I see that some people are using the Sacramento Blackfish.
Any reviews on how they are doing, how they cook up and what the best feed is?
Any info would be helpful. I have not found too much info on the internet about using this species in aquaponics.
Thanks!

Suegeetm, check out http://aquaponicscommunity.com/group/sa ... lackfish-1. (Folks on that forum often post references to threads on BYAP, so hope it's OK to do the reverse here...) Best wishes.

I live in Northern CA (Salinas). I got 15 - 5" Sacramento Blackfish about 4 months ago. I grind up a high protein feed to feed them. I've been told they're filter feeders. I have had almost no growth in 4 months. They do not seem to like winter at all. They stayed in very tight groups, under shelter and almost still all winter... they hardly ate at all. The same mass of goldfish in the other tank ate 4 times as much. Then last week they suddenly completely changed, swimming around and much less suspicious. I assume it's the temperature. I haven't eaten one yet, so can't give any guidance on that. Let me know if you have any specific questions I could answer.
