How big is his dam? We are talking AP here, 1000lt tanks. But even then its probably not too cold to keep em its just a bit risky transporting fingerlings in such cold weather, except trout of course.

I wouldn't have thought cold temperatures were a problem for Murray cod , being as they are native to Victoria.
Have caught them in the upper Murray near Walwa in the past (during winter) & those waters can get very cold. The main problems i can see are their territorial & cannibalistic nature, both of which have been covered earlier.

Probably about 3/4 acre , but was more the temp thing I was curious about.

Just as an aside , my mates cod population is self sustaining . They are breeding and he has not fed them in 4 years .

Yeah mate, he seemed to have plenty, they are quite tiny though, he said 2 inches but can't complain they look healthy so far. he also said he has some Australian Bass which are doing really well for him this season.

I wouldnt worry with the bass. I got some about this time last year and they dont seem to have grown at all. I think if you had them in a small tank to themselves they would grow better

Bass are notoriously slow growing... even in the wild... (a 1kg wild Bass... is probably 4-6 years old)

Quick update on my murray cod, I have been commenting on them in my system thread.
Have had no noticable losses, they seem to feed well with the current water temps, we had a cold week here and water temps were below 18C and they continued to feed. Noticed one or two flashing the other day but then nothing since, I did stop feeding for a day or two when I noticed this though. Salt is at 2.5ppt.
I would say that some have noticably grown but not much, some would now be at the 50mm that they should have been when purchased.
Have fed them yabbie meat and they love this also.

I got 30 from John via Jamey two months ago and have lost half mainly through my using a filter that was sitting stagnant for a few weeks, and yes have flogged myself with the dumb stick.
The survivors are approaching 100mm and are fat. Still too much room in the 4 foot aquarium for 14 fish as I noticed one today that has been hassled and is hanging out in a top corner to try to hide.
They grow bloody quick believe me and these are hitting 3mm skrettings already
