Are you human?: what about my scales
Location: Kindred, Tasmania
Hey everyone,

I'm in the process of establishing my aquaponics system down in the southern isle, and I'm interested in keeping and breeding Astacopsis tricornis, which is endemic to the West Coast of Tasmania.

I've done plenty of research and reading into their requirements and habitat, but I can't seem to find much information on farming them and local legislation. I know its illegal to take them from the heritage areas, but I'm curious about captive extensive production for local markets as they are not listed as endangered..

Can anyone here shed light on this? Thanks!

Humm... I think State Fisheries are very selective about what they'll allow in Tasmania...

Best to discuss your plans with them... what you're trying to do might inspire them to say OK...

Thanks for the prompt replies :)

I'll try and get in contact with the IFS today, hoping to sap a bit more information before I do so..

I used to catch this particular species as a kid, when I lived in Queenstown (the mad moonscape).. I'm extremely curious as to what the IFS are going to come back with..

I'm gonna go with your idea gnash, and just do it anyway.. there can't be too much of a good thing.
