Finally started building my new system, with much planning and reading. This is the best I could design, given money (I have none), space (wanted it close to power and house).

Oh shutup and post some pictures...

File comment: Start of the grow bed supports. Need to brace underneath. One grow bed (bathtub 300mm deep 200L) and 1 duckweed tank, yabbies (400L). need to add another two GB for stage one, then 2 more later

File comment: old tank (for fish), cut bottom off and covered old manhole (personhole = politically correct), then sealed with goo (still to test on weekend to see if worked, othewise I'm back to drawing board :( )

Water will be pumped (see picture) out of the fish tank then down under the retaining wall before feeding to the grow beds, gravity feed return.

Fish tank: 2100mm dia, 900m high = 2,800L usable volume
Growbeds: 5 x 180-200L = 900L
Fingerlings/yabbies/duckweed = 400L

File comment: Pump specs, can handle 6 mm soft solids so hopefully do the job. It will be set on a timer and slow drain AKA EB's design AKA Joel's ;)

AS, coming along nicely. Looks like you live in a pretty nice part of the world there, plenty of room! Good to see it happening for you!

Have 20 acres but due to funding (and wanting to preserve terrestial orchids) my system will hug the house site :)

Gripset 51 bitumen rubber (see photo)

It is apparently suitable for potable water, Coverage @ 1.2mm thick 1.5L per m2. 2L = $30 4L = $50 at M10

I thinned it with water to apply an over all seal (protect from old galv. walls) then thickly applied to manhole cover and old overflow pipe. Hopefully it will work test on Sunday.

Plan to cycle with manure (will this work? rather not kill the fish, unless their on my plate  ) stock first with local redfin, then buy some silvers and maybe some yellows.

System cost so far...
Sealer $30
Pump $50 delivered
Tank Free
Bathtubs Free
Timber Free
Bolts Purchased years ago

Plumbing... well we'll get to that in due time :(

watch the centre seam of the tank, ours isn't supported all the way across and has sprung. I have to empty 2000L gravel out and reapply the sikaflex. The overflow hole has been an issue too.

Looks lovely though, looking forward to more "off bottom" movements

Not sure about cycling with manure - could be all sorts of pathogens and stuff in it. Why not use your own urine.

I could be really pedantic and say that this thread title is an interesting grammatical exercise. "get of" means the child or spawn of something... therefore "Asitis get of his butt" could be something quite scary

Lot of work there, I'd of never thought of using an existing fence. You'd be on new ground using manure to cycle I think, not sure if it would be wise due to contents. How would you place it in your system?
