Hi all,

I have been at this since June 2010. I really need another grow bed as I have about 100 small to medium Silvers and 8 large marron in there. Money will show up soon I am sure.

My network is really slow today so you can see my images at

Best wishes

John

Let me get this right John...

You have 100 Silver Perch and 8 marron... in a 1000L tank with a 500L growbed???

What sort of aeration do you have???

What are your test levels?

I do not have a tester, just run things by observing the fish and smelling the water.

My system is close to collapse because the fish are growing, and I am constantly eating the veges, so as I said I need another grow bed. Just went down to my local hardware store and made them an offer on a grow bed that has been there for a long time. The hydroton will be the most expensive part.

I use 2 large aerator rocks on a large aerator that has a battery backup. I also have another aerator there just in case. If the water gets too ammonia smelly I can hook up the second aerator.

Meanwhile this weekend is going to be devoted to improving my water supply. We have only had 137mm of rain this year so I have to use gassed out tap water. I think a big blue barrel with an aerator in it should help dispel the chlorine. Plus I need to organise some shade for the system as summer is here already.

Hey there John, great to see you on here. Hope you can get that next bed set up soon before disaster hits..

Did you think you were going to lose a lot of your fish? Is that why you got so many?

I did think I was going to lose some fish but I thought they would grow a lot slower. These guys are growing a lot quicker than I thought, and I am eating a lot more veges than I thought.

In other words this system is way more productive than I thought it would be, it is much more dynamic.

Anyway I bought a new BYAP growbed and stand from my local coop. Got a good deal and will set it up on Friday. I just need to put a T piece into the pump line and add a drain. I shall send a pic when It is done.
