New Growbeds
Two 1800mm x 800 x 300 (5'9" x 2'6" x 1') deep with a capacity of 0.367 M3. Two more growbeds will be added later..The growbeds are made out of wood and lined with 25mm (1 inch) of foam for insulation and 0.75 EPDM pond liner. The liner is fixed to the side of the bed with a plastic strip.
Need some gravel in them now..

Hi TimC
Cost just over $200 each...with some spare timber and paint left over..The pond liner was the expensive part about $153 for liner..Could have went for a PVC type liner which would have brought the cost right down..I am a bit suss on PVC still..The EPDM liner is laboratory tested to be fish safe and drinking water safe..
Details here

Good thing about timber is you can build to any size..

They look great but how did you incorporate a reliable (leak proof) drain into them ? What type of drain system did you use, Continuous Flow, Auto-Syphon or Flood and Drain ?

cheers

My dad is a tile layer and when he went to do his shower what he did for the drain was cut an extra flap of liner and cement it to the drain then cement the drain down. If you are worried about toxicity I would go with marine grade epoxy (PC-11 i think) will be like concrete and never let go. And its tested to be no toxic and food safe.

What about the plywood cost ? They look a lot deeper than 300mm, or is that just the camera angle.
They sure look good.

Derekh - Still haven't sorted out the drain yet..Its going to be a 'Flood and Drain' system.

jtjf_1 - I was thinking about cutting out a big washer from the spare liner and gluing to drain outlet first...

Murray - I used green tongue floor boards 800mm wide, cut in half....screwed and glued to side of 90x45 structural pine frame...Painted with two coats of pink primer undercoat and two coats of enamel. I hope it will give me enough protection from moisture for a few years or more.
The other concern I have is that i might have to brace the top across the centre to resist bowing out of the sides..
