Because my front porch system is in an uninsulated place, I needed to put a third system inside for the tilapia. I can't put them in with the catfish. =)

So I put up a small system in my kitchen. Perfect place to grow herbs, if I get enough light...

I decided to do a chift pist, with a venturi drain to clean out the bottom. With some success.
The standpipe. The water will exit a few inches above the bottom of the tank.

testing with water. Hydroton layer to lighten the load a bit. I'm blown away that this bookcase is holding...

I swapped out that water, and put the water from the porch system into this one as I moved the fish. I had put a bunch of cycled gravel in the growbed, plus some fish poo, so hopefully the system will cycle very quickly.

I went to the garden store and bought some wet-land/bog plants to plant, so I could have something sucking up the nitrates immediately. Planted and with fish:

The fishtank. The fish are in there, but most are in the hides or in the papyrus.

Planted growbed. The plant in the far back left is a strawberry, and I'll transplant some basil in. Because I figure the purchased plants won't last long. Then I'll seed in various winter/low light food plants as the ornamental die off.

My preview isn't showing the images, but the post is accessing google, so I'm going to hit "submit" and see what happens...
If the images don't show, I'll try by making them attachments.

Rats! Let me try that again...

The standpipe.

The slits at the bottom are still probably a bit too big, the tilapia sure are skinny! So I covered them with screening.

GotFish?
This time as I transferred the fish, I got a good count! :confused2:
One died in the move, but I definitely have 23 live ones... :sad2:

But the rest seem to be settling in well.
Yay!

No, they're up on google's picasaweb, and the album is public. I'll figure it out later, but the link to the whole album (only about 27 pics right now) is http://picasaweb.google.com/swanberg/Aquaponics#

Can anyone else see the picture below?
Isn't there a sandbox somewhere on this system to test out forum tricks?

Ok... worked fine for me Karen... suggest the mods check the syntax on your other posts...

Perhaps you've left out a "character" somewhere....
