Here is a picture on one of my breeding tanks. Our male is 3 times the size of our female, and the PVC pipes offer a great retreat. However, I have experienced with PVC retreat, the female is now residing in the retreat longer than usual. As a result, male and female courtship has decreased. I'm thinking about removing the retreat until she is holding eggs...right now I coax her out every now and than.
I found, with mouth brooders, a terracotta pot with a diameter the same length as the male is essential for fertilization. I noticed this after my F1 Oreochromis mossombica female deposits the eggs in the pot the male stands up vertically when fertilizing the eggs.
