I have had varied success learning about systems from this forum including going through most of the mistakes and a major fish kill due to inadvertently turning off the power. I now have two sytems that seem to be running ok and in between reclaiming the backyard cleaning up all my left over "ebay bargains" I have created a little 3rd system to experiment on things I wouldn't in the other two. (well that's what I keep telling myself).
This system is a fibreglass bathtub with the blue barrels with 70/30 hydroton/gravel suspended above. Each barrel is flood and drain, directly back into the bath. Now I have fed this some gravel from my other system , some seasol etc and left it to cycle for a couple of weeks now. I threw in some seeds just cause I dont like seeing them empty

(the extra blue barrel is for water top ups)
After my power experiences this system is getting it's juice from an inverter fed from batteries that are being topped up from a charger..which is powering one of the other systems. (overkill possibly but I'm not keen to repeat the fish kill)

So what and how many fish to put in ? The volume of the tub appears is between 400 and 500 litres and right now their is no smaller cover over it , which I am thinking may rule out trout
