Hi All
My name is DWayne. I have been reading Backyard Aquaponics forum for about a year now getting my head around everything. Well this is my first system which i got up and running. I did this system to see how things work. I already planning my next system, ahhaha. Anyway I never worried about testing the water so i have no idea what`s the PH or Amonia levels are but the goldies are very happy. I have 7 goldies and 6 yabbies and i`ve only managed to kill one fish so far.
Anyway i had a washing tub sitting around not been used and a Garbo bin. This system is a flood and drain using a pond pump on a timer set for 15min every hour. Its been up and running for about 4 months now with no problems.
Anyway i could not have got this system up and running if it was not for the great infomation i found on the forum.

Thanks :D
The problem i have is that my house is a rental. So small easy to move systems will have to do for now. I`ve got two move Garbo bins (new :D ) which i will cut down to make two tanks the same size which will be joined. I plan for one to be the main tank which will overflow to the other which will be the sump. Anyway i will start posting Pics of that system very soon.
Once again thanks

Nice compact system. The suds return hole in the bottom left of the 2nd photo can be made into an overflow return if the main drain blocks. :D

Hey all
When i started this system i had 8 goldies and 8 yabbies. I´m now down to 7 Godies and 5 yabbies. One yabbie has no legs  and 3 yabbies are missing. But they all seem very happy and healthy. What can you do to stop the yabbies from munching on each other :?
Anyway all is good and i will soon be planting baby toms tomorrow.
cheers

Probably need at least one hide/yabbie... and to keep the feed up to them...

They're territorial, but will be happy if they have their own "home" and some space to roam... and are well fed...

Looking at the photo... could be that the size of the tank can probably only sustain about 5 yabbies anyway.... especially that size...

If you've got any females in berry... (hold their tail curled under).... then weigh down an orange/onion bag... so the girls can rest peacefully without harrassment... and for any little babies...

Hey
I made some minor changes but today i noticed one of the Goldies without out a tail  and some scales missing. The other goldies don´t seem to look that well. The system has been running for awhile now very little problems. The plants are growing really well with fast growth and the water is very clear. I will try and buy a kit to test the water today so i have some idea whats happening. The yabbies are fine and they seem to like the new onion bag. :D
Cheers
