Gee Dave, you must have a lot of yard space to be adding a system every year ;) :D

It's really been true. It's easy to re-jigger everything when everything dies over the Winter.

Thanks Ruperto!

The warehouse in Baltimore had lots of neat toys and I got to talk with the guys there a bit. They have flanges to use with liner that looked like the ticket.

They had put together four modules of a "rain cavern" and the one guy was standing on it.

Oh what I could do with one of these things. Still not sure how much they cost. Imagine one of those cheap black plastic shelving units that you press together, except twice as thick. Fish in the water cavity, gravel and plants on top.

Called one of the local trout hatcheries, they have fish (I think it was fingerlings) for $1 apiece; they have all sizes all year round, so if they grow out "too fast" I can just go get more.

OK, enough messing around, it's in the 70's today and windy. Time to start moving everything around!

Uniseals will work with liner too, at least they have been working with liner for me and with the number that I'm using I would suspect to have noticed any leaking by now. Definitely cheaper than bulkhead fittings and they don't require added threaded fittings to attach the piping so even cheaper that way too.

Looking forward to the 2009 version!!!!

Yep we'll see, might end up having to get them from AquaticEco. Actually I won't need any holes in my liner just yet. The full system design would but that likely won't be happening this year.

All that digging to put the tubs in the ground was undone today. Going to be interesting trying to level out the 10'x10' square for the lined bed.

OK I think I'm done for this weekend, as it is supposed to rain and I'm disoriented and tired from the time change. :(

You can kind of see the 10'x10' square, and for now I'm thinking of the 180 gallon tub for fish then the 110 gallon for a flood and drain, which means that I will have to bury another probably 110 tub for a sump. The full system design would be lined rectangles rather than these stock tanks.

Think of the system as a typical CHIFT PIST FT->flood and drain bed->sump, except the patio bed is after the flood and drain bed. It works like a gravel-filled NFT. Still deciding on the flood and drain part. I'm thinking of a timer and standpipe rather than continuous pump and siphon, although the siphon would water the patio bed better.

Quick question for the sparky gurus, can I make a battery backup using a car battery or does it have to be a special deep cycle one? I currently have an automotive battery charger, I was going to either buy a cheap new car battery from Walmart or ask around if anyone has one that works OK but they don't need. I was going to get an inverter from Harbor Freight probably. Thanks for the answers!
