Great too hear Coach, it's around the same price as the Wood Vinegar here in OZ and I'm sure it would be very similar to the Wood Vinegar in what is does.

I find the Wood Vinegar kills most bugs instantly and it also give a lift to the plants for a few days.

Cooking Road-Kill :laughing3:

Coach the Wood Vinegar has a very pungent smell, very sharp and nothing like anything I've smelt before, it's like a very strong chemical smell and nothing like a natural product at all.

Smells like liquid smoke. I bought a small jar before. I've used it for cooking on grill. It's the same stuff I think.

Probably going to be hit or miss with this. I've tried the same stuff as Chris and while it may slow aphids and spider mites down it definitely didn't stop them. To me it smells the same as liquid smoke but possibly just a little stronger - difficult to say though.

I've had to use mine pretty regularly to get control of my white fly. But, it seems to be much easier on by beneficials. The parasitic Encarsia? wasps are still working with me, and when I was using the Azadirachtin, it was knocking them back also.

The stuff I'm using has a very strong smell to it, almost a toxic smell and the first time I used it I was worried that it might be too strong and kills the plants off.

I'll try and see if I can find any more information on it and possibly a comparison between the two, I don't have any liquid smoke to compare it with to tell if it's the same or not.

From what I understand so far is that Wood Vinegar and Liquid Smoke are meant to be the same product but there could be a difference between different brands and the material used by each company in their product

Here are some trials by farmers in Benguet Philippines using Wood Vinegar

The only thing it hasn't helped with is the leaf miners on the cukes. But, then again nothing else has either.

I've noted the recent chat on the forum about wood vinegar and have been using it for a month or two now. Haven't noticed any problems with plants... and maybe they're healthier although it's hard to be objective about that one. I'm a little bit more confident that it deters/kills some/most pests though not certain about that yet - will do some more careful testing.

But these caterpillars - no idea what they are - on my non-aquaponic fig tree seemed to enjoy the soaking I gave them late yesterday (concentration about 1:300). Here they were an hour ago - hard at it again.

The fish enjoyed seemed pretty happy to be introduced to them!

I have been lucky so far with caterpillars, but i have found that wood vinegar appears ineffective against them, the few i have found i have hand picked and gave them to the fish. Most other thing available to us here in the LOS are taken care of by the wood vinegar.
