What started as intriguing science expirement six years ago has sadly ended. Its not a permanent end though as I will build a new system but it wont be until February maybe. The new system is designed though. I am military and transfering to my finnal duty station before i retire. The system was now old and rebuilt and lots of lessons learned and mistakes made. I cant haul the grow bed, tank and sump. So i tossed them and replacements are inexpensive. I will haul the grow media though as that is what is expensive. The fish were two years old, wish they had a another year to get bigger. They were a few slabs in there though. Most were decent sized (for blue gill). A few were small.

I never noticed how beautiful these fish are. They are supposed to be blue gill but i dont remember blue gill having such brightly colored fins.

Going forward my new system will be a whole IBC as a tank. Then two IBC (chop top and bottom) to make four grow beds. Then a blue barrel as a solids filter and something as sump. Down side is in another 2 to three year I will have to move again. Eventually one day i want to be a farmer or homesteader but i need to finish this carreer first and buy a house.

The following are photos: pic of the system before tear down, picture of their range of sizes, a loan fish showing the average size.ImageImageImage

Nice looking healthy fish!! Good luck with the move and future aquaponics. It looks like you had some good results. Enjoy the fillets!
