Well here is the start of our system. Will comprise 6 1/2 barrel GB's, 3 sumps come Yabbie tanks all joined and pumping back to a 1000L tank (though I am still looking for this - the local courier thinks he has found me some should know tomorrow.)

The fish tank will be located in a shed and drain back to the GB's (I hope or it will be another pump.)

I keep running back in side and looking at EB's turnkey system, then "NO NO recycle recycle!!!!!!!!"

I'm going to Albany just after xmas to catch up with a good mate, seems only logical to order some stands and pick them up whilst I'm down that way, and if I have to do a wine tour well so be it :D :D :D

How will the stands go being only supported on the ends, Due to my tight nature I will be using pea gravel so will have a bit of weight.

Normally they support two full wine barrels Gnash..... so that's at least 400ltrs = > 400kg (i think)......

As you'll have only two halves I think they should be fine.

worried about sagging in the middle (NO NOT LIKE THAT) due to weight and the fact that when the barrels are in half they loose strength

I am going to be putting steel rod through at 1/3 intervals, 50mm down from the edge and hoping that will be enough support. will keep you posted.

VB suggested, rightly so. thqat at the price weld some extra support rims in but I dont have a welder. I think the rods should work.

Using 5mm rod, threaded then pushed through some plastic tubing to keep water tight

Surely there's a friendly AP nut near you in WA who owns a welder?
I'd loan you min, but it's the old transformer type, weights 30kg, I don't think you'd like the freight costs ;-)

True there probably is, but I guess I wanna see if the rod system works first. Trying to keep things as simple as possible and use stuff laying around for my initial system. To weld supports would mean buying steel etc.

Besides, if it turns out they bulge and i have to unload all the gravel piping etc it will be good for my soul.

I am thinking of actually digging the gravel from around the scrub where I live as there is heaps of it

Cool idea quarrying your own gravel...
but to weld does not mean purchasing steel at all! You just want to see some of the scrap I've welded into useful items.
But it is easier with nice stock steel; that's why I now go diving in dumpster at a couple of machine shops I am friendly with. You'd be suprised the useful (to an extent) stuff they throw out just cos it's too hard keeping it all and then searching and measuring a piece big enough for their job!. Wow... that was a mouthful, I really should take a breath once in a while.
