Just thought I'd post some pictures of a system thats up in Onslow in the north of W.A.

Onslow is a very small town with only about 600 people and this system has been set up by one of the locals who hopes to one day expand it into multiple systems to help feed the town. She has stocked the system with some local fresh water fish species after getting permission from the local indigenous people to collect them. I've got to admit, it's a very interesting looking mix in the fish tank.

that's fantastic. We went fishing once in the river at Old Onslow on our trek up the west coast. We caught some mullet and catfish from memory (been a while though) Beautiful part of the world.

Hi, the fish you are looking at there are cat fish, yellow tail brim and trumpeters. There are also so mangrove jacks, a mud crab, and boney herring.

It rained in the Pilbra for 2 weeks as a group of cyclones passed, about 7 weeks ago, and the river has been runnin constantly. The fish are all salt water species, generaly speaking, though these have adapted to the fresh water fior breeding purposes and survival. It will be interesting to see how they go, they all eat well, and seem to be doing fine, the longest surviving fishes are one week in the system. 8) :shark: :shark: :shark:

Firstly welcome to the forum. Well done. What have you planted in the growbeds? Is the temperature tropical and humid? i am sure things grow fast with the warm conditions compared to here in Perth with the onset of Winter.

Welcome Jessy please keep the updates coming!

I'd worry about the big ones eating the pump.

(Please forgive me while I have fun with Google Earth, not sure if I'll ever get to Onslow from here in the US) So got them on the river out Beadon Creek Road huh? So the big long thing is a salt-making pipeline?

Hi, No the big long thing headed out to sea is the conveyor belt to the ship loader. The fish came from the crossing at the Ashburton River. heading out to the Robe River on Sunday, its ment to be a hot spot for fresh water fish, according to the aboriginals in town.
The big fish look after the bottom of the tank, but my neighbour, would like them for dinner soon!!

yep no worries. hopefully catch a heap of Millinger ( local fresh water perch ) and mangrove jacks out there at Robe River. The whole concept is truely amazing, the grow beds are having a noticable growth rate day by day even at this stage.
