I ordered chocolate habeneros, germinated and planted in GB. Plants are now in heavy bloom. I discovered a half grown pepper today while pruning/working in GH. It's not a habenero, it's a bell pepper. I have 2 bell peppers plants in the GH, along with what is supposed to be Carolina Reapers. The 2 bell peppers are appx 9-10 ' away, and declining. Zero to few blooms. Did i get ripped off on the seeds? Are they cross pollinating with the bells? If so, wouldn't they have some characteristics of the habs? Just pissed right now. Waited 3 months to get to where I have some nice looking plants, and now they may not be what I ordered. Never buying from small, online seed dealers again. Trying to save a few bucks, and end up 3 months behind schedule. I have orders for more hot sauce, and this was going to be my next batch.
As far as keeping "pure" varieties, what do I need to do? Only grow 1 variety? Hand pollinate with a different brush each time? As soon as the poly comes off, the bees will come in, and then what?

After a little research, I got taken. The seeds from the first generation plants could be hybrids, but not the first generation. So, I have bell peppers sold to me as Chocolate habs. I will contact the seller, but very apprehensive about getting more seeds from that source. Stick with reputable seed dealer. At least my Carolina reapers look like reapers.

I tried to grow chocolate peppers, but they never did bloom. They had buds that never opened.

Crap that you got bell peppers instead and found out now.

I'll know in a few weeks if all the seeds I germinated are wrong or not. Just pisses you off when people charge you for a premium hot and give you a freaking bell pepper. Thankfully, my Carolina reapers and ghosts are coming in...a little behind the so called Chocolate Habs, but they'll be harvesatble in 3- 4 weeks.
