Hi Ruby, you'll have to give a little more information about your system before anyone can offer advice.. What is you'r pH, how big is your system? Any photos, how much feed is going into the system? etc...

Not knowing much about your system, a few things that I have learned about small systems : yes PH makes a difference, and because the system is small, the ph tends to swing more. Adding shell grit should help stabilize it. Next seaweed extract is your friend. Finally, make sure your system is getting enough light.
