Hello Everyone

Thank you for your previous help - I have got the installation of my 3,000ltr FT, 2,500 GB's, 2,000 ltr ST - CHIFT PIST system started and as this is my first go at aquaponics would be very grateful for some more help please.

Here is a link to the thread outlining our progress viewtopic.php?f=18&t=21715

Please click on the images to see them if necessary.

Fingerlings -
I am thinking using the ST for fingerlings may make it a bit hard to catch them (the tank is around 2 mtrs in diameter) perhaps I should install one of the 500ltr GB's adjacent to the ST to act as a fingerling tank?

Do experienced people think this to be the way to go?

Do I need to cycle the water in the fingerling tank and if so would it be OK to use the water from the ST?

The Pump -
I have studied the BYAP thread on the study that was undertaken into which of three different systems grows better veggies and thinking I will go for the flood and drain using 2 x 6 mm drains in each of the 500 ltr GB's.

As I understand it a 500ltr GB takes 30 min to drain through 2 x 6 mm and I am thinking I should aim to fill the GB's in around 15 min.
So I am thinking I should purchase a pump capable of turning over the FT in around 15 min?
Therefore 12,000 ltr's per hour.

Is this correct please?

And if using 12,000 ltr per hour pump will 50 mm delivery pipe be OK?

Sorry for asking all these technical questions. I've been researching for more than 12 months and think I am on the right track but I don't want to make a mistake with something as expensive as the pump and I know there are plenty of people with experience who will have the answers in their head.

Thank you in anticipation. I am very grateful to the people who contribute their great knowledge freely on this site. (It's where most of my research has been focused.)

Kind regards
Rodney

PS By the way, I couldn't help myself, I have also installed bell siphon's. (I do tell myself the idea of advantages coming from having a rapid drain at times may be worth it.) Cheers
