Hi all,

As the title implies, I am new here and also new to Aquaponics. I wanted to get the pros (that’s you guys) to critique my system idea. I am using 3 IBC’s to make up my system. I’d also like to utilize rafts/plants as covers for the fish tanks and sump tank because I want to maximize the use of the system. I know that I will need to have bubblers for each of the tanks. So please let me know if my concept is sound. Thanks for your help.

System Information:

1000 gph (500 gph at 5' lift) Submersible pump. A bit oversized on purpose.
The pump will be on a timer to cycle the system volume twice per hour.
The float is a standard horse trough float gravity fed from the manifolded fish tanks.
The grow bed media is going to be expanded shale.
Bell siphons will be in each of the grow beds.
The fish tanks will all be painted and insulated.
I plan to vacuum solids from the bottom of each tank weekly.
I intend to put only fresh water prawns, not fish in the sump tank.
I know that I do not actually need a sump tank but just want to utilize all the materials.

Thanks!
Dave

IMO
You would be better off putting your sump at the end of the line and having your GB's dumping clean water into your FT's, and your FT's gravity feeding via SLO's into you sump.

That way your not pumping any fish poop into your FT,s just clean filtered water. :thumbright:
