Good Morning Everyone,

I thought I would start my build thread although its going to be a slow build. Unfortunately I’m at work and I cannot resize my pictures so I will add pics when I get home.

I’ve been fascinated with Aquaponics for quite some time now, previously I build a portable NFT/vertical garden system in a place i was renting which only feed my addiction.

My plan is to incorporate a CHOP2 system with my old 5 channel NFT and 3 vertical gardens. I intend to also use a 200 litre olive drum to make a radial filter between the sump and the fish tank to capture solid waste and utilise a venturi on the pump leading into the fish tank.

In the CHOP 2 system Ive read that the ideal SLO setup is to have 2 SLO's in the FT made from 50mm PVC which are then joined outside the tank, I intend to have these joined before the radial filter, which then feeds into sump tank.

To get me through this build I got my hands on a 6 foot fish tank and stand which I placed on my balcony. I used 4.5 mm Perspex and drilled 16 x 90mm holes which are create a perfect little balcony herb garden for 100mm pots. The system is currently cycling atm but the yabbies current love it. :D

Have a great day.

Cheers,

Matt

Welcome if joining SLO Together before entering the RFF ensure you join them into a larger pipe.

Good Tip CCbear, would you reccommend 40mm SLO's to 50mm or 50mm SLo's to 90mm feeding the RFF?

Cheers,

Matt

I run my RAS with 50 mm SLO from each tank into a 65 mm pipe. I only have a 50 mm feeding out so I had to expect some backup in the RFF and tanks. Rob bob runs two 50 mm pressure pipe SLO's and takes both pipes into his RFF and at the moment he runs one 50 mm line out. He uses pressure pipe so he can easily disassembly the system if need be. Uses barrel unions and valves between tanks and filters. YouTube his channel for a look at what he has done so far. This is a photo of my tanks to RFF connection.
