So I have tried growing capsicum (sweet mama) in my AP system and so far have only got a tiny little one. This fell off I'm some strong wind we had and now the plant seems to 'almost' grow something and then the flower dies off and the plant shoots off at another angle. So it seems to grow a lot, without producing many capsicums. Can anyone offer some advice? It is the nutrient level (or lack of)? Or wrong type of vege etc?

Hi Ben im in Sth Australia as well I had no luck growing capsicums in my first season , I have 3 good plants this summer doing well . I think they are very good "Indicator" plants , fruiting plants need a more complete nutrient base , if your system is still new concentrate on the leafy crops which are more "N" dependant and just experiment with your fruiting crops . As is always the case in AP , patience and lots of it . No doubt we could throw all sorts of gear in to get systems going quickly but trouble would surely follow .

Hi Ben, i struggled also, i have got peppers going now so will try capsicums again. Someone else said that you need to prune off the first few flowers otherwise you will only get 1 or 2 fruit, not sure?

Ive never had too many issues with capsicum or chilli. Just plant and watch them grow.

I planted a couple of capsicums in late Sept, one of them has 8 fruits on it ATM, and the other has 16, and I've already picked a few off each. I think they are Sweet Mamas too. I'm flat out keeping the aphids at bay- some leaves are covered in them only a few days after I spray or squash them all, but the fruit keeps coming.
I've picked over 100kg of tomatoes from 8 plants since xmas, and am currently picking plenty of strawberries each day, so the system has been a good fruit producer, and its only been operating since the end of April 2013.

It's not the wrong type of vegetable, but there may be a problem somewhere. How are the rest of the plants going?

Thanks Terra, the system has been going a while but I haven't had much luck with other flowering plants either, so I'll take your advice.

Kitacooch, I might try that, I have had someone else say the same but thought I'd let it grow for a while first.

Charlie and Gunagulla, that is an awesome amount of vegetables! (I have to admit I'm a little envious, haha). That's certainly given me some motivation to get similar results!
