Hi everyone, my name is Camron I am from Kansas City MO. I got turned onto Aquaponics by a Saltwater forum. I just built my first system currently only has 3 gold fish and 1 plant I'll be adding some herbs to it soon probably.

You can check it out on Youtube

Video 1 is just the trial run of the automatic bell siphon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcKirFsqT2U

video 2 is planted and running http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P9dHIWJRUg

Please feel free to comment and let me know what you think (please don't be too hard on me)

If I make water using a reverse osmosis deionized machine is there any "cycle" that needs to happen? Or can I add fish and plants the same day?

You still need to cycle the water for the beneficial bacteria to develop.
One short cut is to take the filtration media from an already established system and use that as it will already have the bacteria needed.
But the system still needs some time to level out, testing the water will let you know where all the levels are and when it will be safe to add the fish.

When you say filtration media do you mean like the clay balls or river rock etc. what if I grabbed half of my water from a pond dues that speed things up or open a different set of issues.

Hi everyone, I wanted to thank everyone for the comments been very helpful. Also, I wanted to let everyone know that I got my 1000w grow light installed last night and put a video up on my YouTube channel. Also, I had some seeds started but I think I over watered and they got dampened off -- or whatever the term is. Today I picked up a new seed tray that will allow me to water from the bottom -- a solution I found on here and backed up from other forums. I also have a nice zucchini added to the system.

Here is my updated video.
