I have contemplated growing them in my system but am a bit scared of their rampant root system.

You will need to grow both male and female to get pollination

Give it a go and keep us posted

Maybe each plant in its own blue barrel than you don't have to worry too much about the roots.

I have some growing ,the way they are growing at the moment it is starting to look like a taxi driver was telling me in Auckland. He was concerned that they may not grow but it turned out that it was a matter of controlling them.He had to keep cutting them back to stop them taking the place over and he got that much fruit that he finished up making wine with them.

I bought a 'hardy kiwi' or 'kiwi berry' the other day.

So far its rocketing along. I have it in a smallish pot however because its a temporary place holder whilst i prepare its real home.

This plant is self fertile, producing fruit that are shiny skin slightly larger than a grape but identical looking to a kiwi fruit. Can eat them straight from the plant.

They love water, but well drained soil.

Im wondering how they would grow in aquaponics. Judging by dbirds comment they might go wild. They are similar to grapes in how you prune them, wondering if there will be any problems in winter...

Mine now is just starting to have brown crinkled leaves...i water them once a day in the pot but i just dont think its holding enough water..

Thoughts? anyone grown kiwi in AP?

currently also thinking about passionfruit, avocado and pomegranate

Just a word of caution, with plants with very aggressive root systems, even by them selves you need to keep a very close eye on they drain. There was a thread ages ago where someone put a passionfruit in the system and they were clearing the drain very regularly to stop the bed from overflowing.

When you say Kiwi I thought we were talking about Kiwi fruit, never tought of Kiwi berry.I have both in AP.The Kiwi berry is doing alright but I don' think it is going to go ferrel but the Kiwi fruit I am not so sure.I have a young berry growing in a whole blue barrel and that keeps blocking the drain up.It has gone bonkers and has a lot of fruit on it too.

Sounds interesting!

I expect aeroponics would work better for aggressive roots. I expect all three dirt, aqua and aero will compliment one another.

You'll probably find dirt & aqua... will clog the aero...

Ive re read this a few times.

You say kiwi berry is doing alright but not going crazy

then you say you have a young berry growing in a blue barrel that keeps blocking the drain and has lots of fruit.

Was it a typo of have i misread ? Is the berry doing well or not?

thanks :)
