The picture is pretty self explanatory and we’ve all seen this design before. What I was surprised about was the threaded barrel cap can be tapped so that a bulkhead wasn’t needed. I simply cut open the end of the threaded area and screwed a male thread to female slip pvc adapter through. Then I screwed a female thread to female slip adapter to the other adapter. Saved me $15 :D It took me about two hours and total cost so far is around $57. The only thing left to buy is a bag of hydroton $25. It would have been $15 cheaper if I didn’t have to paint it but she was worried her home owner association would object to having it in the front of the house.

I plan to run it as a constant flood and install a ventury on the pump to add O2.

Cost List:
Barrel $10
Plumbing parts $7
Pump $25
Paint $15 (optional)
50L Hydroton $25

Hey that's fantastic! well done.
Such a small system doesn't need a gravel guard?

I have a gravel guard made from a 2.5" pipe. I was thinking about keeping my runt tilapia in her system or gold fish.
