Hi all,

My Dad's just comissioned his system, absolutely "by the book", complete with 100 silver perch from Ausyfish. Will post in a separate topic about the fish fatalities, which sadly have been about 80%

They are galvanised iron rainwater tanks, built to order for this purpose.

It's a galvanised iron base (I think it's called a "zincalume" coating) and yes, at a guess I'd say it's welded on.

Why do you ask?

Corrugated tanks like that have been made in Oz for nearly a century (or thereabouts) I guess. Poly tanks are the new kids on the block.

It's how they came from the shop, no lining - I guess "bare" is what you'd call it.

The system was designed as per Joel's book, down to the letter.

Normally the gal fish tanks people use are aquaplate (they have a lining). Gal - particulalry when new and fresh, will not be good for fish. Might have something to do with your deaths???

Hmmm, if true, that would have been good to know before. :-(

What sort of lining should we be getting then?

Hey side thought- is it possible there was tooling oil on the tank?
We used vinegar to wash the tank before collecting water for drinking and for new roof sheeting after installation.
