G'day from a noob!

I bought a Blue Green Box (mini grow bed) from a kickstarter.com project and have had it running with a couple gold fish and a few tiny neon fish with 60L of water since mid-November. To fire up the plant growth, we put in another 5 gold fish on saturday and the nitrates (40, nitrites and ammonia is up a little.

I'm not too bothered with the levels (nitrate 40 up from 20, nitrite 1 up from 0.25 and ammonia 0.5 up from 0.3) but was wondering if the plants could be growing better? Water is 25C and pH 7.8.

The plants don't get full sun, but are near a window with plenty of light all day. The big basil plant was planted from a pot 2 weeks ago, and the coriander and lettuce on the right planted on Saturday when we added the extra fish.

Any ideas for better growth?

Cheers

Using the TAN chart your ammonia levels are quite toxic which you will need to address. You will need to salt to mitigate nitrite poisening. Does it get direct sunlight? Do you use aqarium products?

I was using this as a guide:

http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/infor ... gen-cycle/

Is that too high?

No direct sunlight, no aquarium products.

The nitrogen cycle is developing. This is the chart I was refering to for ammonia toxicity..

I think you will need direct sunlight for the plants. Do you know how much media there is in total?

It's about 5L of clay balls. It was recommended to use a 40L fish tank with this grow bed, but I got hold of this bigger 80L one.

Add salt to mitigate against nitrite poisoning.

Lowering the temp will also help.
