I am waiting for my manual to arrive and want to know if anyone in the UK or Ireland has a system up and running.
TIA
Brian

Hi Brian, there are a couple of research systems set up, but I'm not sure exactly where they are. Someone will get back to you soon I'm sure.

Hey Brianco, yes there are a few people from the UK on the group but I don't know if they have systems set up yet. There was the aquaculture place in Scotland (I think?) that was going to try converting some of their systems to aquaponics.

There`s a couple i`ve come across but neither, so far at least, seem to be doing anything involving plants.

I think the one in scotland (Stirling?) is mainly to do with tilapia research (could be wrong).

The largest one i know of is New Forest Barramundi in Hampshire (http://www.aquab.com/about.asp).

I remember reading they did plan to expand into AP at some point but nothing has materialised so far that i can find.

They seem to be the only big guns of uk aquaculture, there could well be a lot of more modest AP systems dotted about the country.

They import fingerlings from aus..i bet they won`t sell us any though
some of the specs:
48 indoor tanks with an array of water treatment facilities (don`t like the sound of that much) over 2.5 million litres of water.
Pristine growing conditions, no additives or hormones given to the fish.
Constant room and water temperature of around 28°C.
Output is alledgedly 400 tonnes of barramundi (Lates
calcarifer) per year.

They do say 99.68% of the water is recycled and it uses
an "advanced recirculation aquaculture system"
pioneered in Norway.
No mention of plants anywhere..what a waste

In the "news" section they say "to market" late 2006 and will be establishing a "hatchery" end of 2006....
