I am planning to build a system using 275 gallon IBC in my backyard. I will cut it so I can use the top portion as GB and the bottom as FT. I am planning to use CHOP system. I will have a sump tank next to it along with 4x8 GB. I have few questions.

1. what is the best way to cover FT to provide shade and to keep critters away?
2. Is there a possibility for rain to flood my system? I don't have it in a green house or any roof over it.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi grower and welcome :wave1:

1. Shadecloth

2. Depends how heavy your rain is? Most people dont have there systems covered. A bit of rain is free top up. But if you get torential rains it might be best to put something over it.

Re 2. What about an outlet pipe thats set at about an inch, or 2 above the usual water level?
Similar to a drainpipe on the guttering of a house

Thank you so much for your input. I will look into shade cloth.

I am using 1/2 inch treated plywood to make 3x6 Grow bed next to my IBC tank. I am wondering if this is sturdy to hold all the rocks. I am going to put lava rocks at the bottom and cover the top with pea gravel.
