We decided a few weeks ago that we would venture into the world of backyard chooks!!

after a bit of research, design work, and realisation that farming in well and truly in my DNA (grand parents have massive a farming property up in the wimmera region in rural vic) i have started my chicken coop.

here are some designs, and the first construction photos

I will be getting some 100x100mm hardwood posts soon (unless i can find some great looking aged posts that look the part)

also to make it look old and more 'farmy' i am using old fence palings in a weatherboard pattern, can't wait to start that next bit of the project as i have a massive pile of palings!!

Yeah chooks are cool. one of the neighbours complains bout the noise.but I like the noise. Mine follow me arond the yard. Zoe the groodle gets along well with them aswell. Good luck with them, nothing better than fresh eggs and bacon for breaky.

We are getting 6 Isa Browns for egg production.

I have had farm eggs all my life from my grandparents farm but not as often anymore, so i thought i might as well start farming my own!!

Way to go Ice! We got 9 chicks about a month ago and I've almost finished up with our hen house. Made it almost totally from broken down pallets. Recycle, reduce, REUSE! Definitely gives you that rustic look.
