Hey guys, just wanted to share my small aquaponics setup. I incorporated it into a 'grow box' and it all needs some patching and odds and ends, but it's in working condition.

The main goal is to grow emersed aquatic plants, but I do also dabble with veggies. The part I found interesting with this is the choice of medium I used, since I haven't heard of many people using it.

This container is obviously pretty shallow so I can't put any deep rooters in there but if all stays working well I am going to make it on a larger scale this spring.

Any advice, questions, or comments are appreciated.

Hi JJ, looks like your having fun with your experiment. :wave1:
Watch out mate this aquaponics stuff is highly addictive :funny1:

one comment I would make - you might want to lower the water level or put more media in your GB, if you alow the lights or sun to shine on the water like that you will have algea building up on the top. plus your plants will likely rot.
Generally speaking I have about 20 - 25mm of gravel media above the high water mark this ensures the water is at the root level but not around the stems or leaves. :

Good catch. I'll get more media and raise it up a little bit. This media is $4.50 us for a 40lb bag so it's very affordable.
