I just realized I have been running this system for over a month an have neglected to brag about it here :D

This is what it looked like a month ago when I put in the tomato seedlings along with some seasol and a sprinkle of nitrosol into the water...

and this is what it looks like now...

It's a continuous flow system with a simple outlet at the bottom of each pot so the tank water just percolates down through the hydroton. There's a small ring of 5 outlets in each pot distributed around the plant. You can't see them in the pics because they're buried under the hydroton.

The toms are growing even more vigorously now as the weather warms up, and they're starting to develop fruit. They're looking quite good considering the reduced number of sunlight hours they get here, it's not the best spot for tomatoes.... but nobody told them that.

This system in sitting on the Northen end of the balcony. The balcony actually faces East so it gets morning sun. I'm thinking about maybe setting up a couple of DWC tubes along the front of the balcony to extend this system, might be a good spot spot to grow salad greens.

The point of this system was to convince the wife that aquaponics actually works and that it wasn't just another one of my hair-brain ideas :shifty: ...so I've been holding off on getting fish into this system until my bigger IBC system was built, the idea being to stock both systems at once. This one is only 350 liters and quite shallow so it will probably only have some marron or yabbies and maybe some cheapie goldfish that won't upset me if they become marron food.
