Thanks everyone!!! I'm not going to lie... It feels good! :D I've seen this vision for years so seeing it come to fruition has been a life changing event and has taught me a lot.

Colli- a small wage (enough to get by on) but I have been reinvesting a lot of the money in the buis so that we continue to grow. I'm actually working on a contract with a local resturaunt to move close to 1K a week in produce through them :).

If you were in Adelaide, I could get you as our fruit & veg supplier. We go through $2k a week, and the stuff we get is quite dull.

Do you have any local colleges/boarding schools around your area? I know ours have been getting increasingly health conscious, and plowing through the salads like there is no tomorrow (they seem to go through more each year). I could quite easily push to have aquaponic vegies as new healthy fresh alternative.

Just a thought :)

That's 100gs a year from one outlet Colum, what are you waiting on man? Time for you to get things going!

Columnmn- Yes, there are at least 1 dozen schools within a few hours of Ryan. That may be a good idea. Ryan, I can get you with Aramark, which operates about 90% of the campus restaurants across the US. My son is GM at FSU.

Could be an awesome opportunity once I have more to sell but as it stands everything is being sold local.

Dasboot- sounds good!

What kind of covering are you using on your greenhouse?

I see Grower's Supply sells the diffusive infrared, but I am slightly concerned this type may retain heat too well for summer months. Then I look at Solar Ice type covering and become concerned this type doesn't hold heat well enough for winter months.

I don't remember the exact name but it was a 4yr opaque poly (probably wrote it in this thread somewhere). I still get over 100 in the summer.

Thats the main problem Stewart and even if it is available its tracking it down,so few shops here have internet or web sites, its the old fashion way of tracking it down on foot. I can’t get a decent internet connection where i live, there are to many trees in the way for the wireless signal,i have to rely on a sim card in the iPad and then use that as a personal hotspot, like lightning a can get well up in the bites download speed. :laughing3:

Oh come on man, make some 40% out of tied together coconut leaves! :)

I've got plans (and a wife to convince too) :)

First stage is to get all the produce looking as pretty as yours. :notworthy:

Still alive, still doing good! I've been extremely busy but wanted to provide a quick update.
I Harvested about 200lbs of tilapia and honestly it is the best I have ever eaten. The greenhouse is still in full production as well as about 125 assorted squash/zucchini plants in an area beside the greenhouse. I also have about 40-50 assorted pepper plants fruiting and getting large.

On top of the farm I've got several speaking engagements scheduled for the year including a presentation at the international recirculating aquaculture conference covering an AP heirloom tomato production trial that I have been conducting over the last year. Lots of other things happening at the moment that I will post about shortly! I'll try to get some pictures up soon. I hope everyone is still growing strong!

Awesome to hear that things are going good Rhino. What was the avg size of your tilapia? I had my first harvest last weekend. They were quite tasty...if I do say.lol Having a hard time with out cukes/zucchini. Leaves keep getting fungus. Trying to keep dry and trimmed for circulation. Let us see some pics and results form your heirloom trials.

Congratulations. Personal self assurance is good but peer recognition is an excellent compliment.

Hey Ryan, is there any way to watch your tomato presentation at the RAS conference? This was the one in Australia right?

Thanks guys. Didn't make it to Adelaide but will be presenting at international recirc aquaculture conference in August in Roanoak, Va. I don't think they video anything but I will apply to have it published in the aquaculture engineering journal and then would be available. So I guess the answer is no? but, I might be able to get it online and link to it after I present.

Chris, they averaged 2 lbs!

Hope everyone is doing good! Our rainy season just hit and I've spending a lot of my free time fossil hunting while our waters were low.
Trying to get some new stuff up soon, it just takes forever, sorry :p

great ryan, looking forward to it!!
Lots of rain in south FL right now as well. Power shortages in the greenhouse during the heavy thunderstorms but other than that everything is smooth...humid and HOT. I'm experimenting with different varieties of greens to grow on short cycles (less than 5 weeks) during the summer. What are you growing through the summer? It is brutal right now, I can't imagine what it is going to be like in August.
