Reduce the feed, and increase the circulation.
What are the water parameters Al ?

All good in the Barra system.
Fish are nearing 300gm when headed and cleaned.
Taste lovelly!
The tomatos are awesome and we are enjoying about 2 cucumber a week still.
The Sweet Corn is looking good - how do you tell when it is ready?

Will need some more fish soon.

When puting new stock in a system(Ie: replacing big fish with little ones), do I add Urea and seasol to top up nutrients and keep the plants healthy?

Anyone want a 1000 litre aquarium on stand for $650?

Al - Your system will continue to produce nitrate, rotting roots worms and their casings.
Nice fish BTW.
Don't think you need to add anything, save fish 8)

Thanks C1,
Yes I need fish.
The most local supplier wants $6 each for trout so I am probably off to the troutman (thanks OBO).
I'll probably put some silvers in too this time.

Hmmm mmmm
Fresh Barra is lovelly indeed!

Impressed the family, inlaws and friends with a barra BBQ for Good friday.
Took 9 out and sizes were a bit smaller than the last lot.
Biggest was 35cm and smallest was 30cm.
There are still some biguns in there and I am guessing based on how many I have taken out that there should be about 25 left.

Got the system all cleaned up and processed the remaining 26 Barra.
They are now in the freezer next to big ice blocks that will keep the trout cool!
Pics are comming, My son has put the camera in a safe place for me...
Hopefully not the fish tank!

Not sure if you got an answer on this one Al. Basically if the silk is dry and brown. If your still not sure just slit the cover and pearce a single kurnell, if the liquid is milky then it is at its peak. Don't worry if the top of the ear isnt developed, if the bulk of it looks plump then pick it.

Thanks Fish fodder,
I ended up opening it a bit and testing it.
It is nice and sweet and milky too. (now I know what I was looking at  )
It all came out as part of the clean out yesterday, a couple of nice heads but mostly about 10cm long and the thickness of a redbull can...

Sad news.
The baby trout had been in for a week.
I had a root blockage last night in one of the grow bed syphons (tomatos expanding)and lost most of my water.
So I cleaned out the syphon and re-filled the tank.
That was about 7pm.
I was so knackered I was aspeap in bed by 8:30.
This morning when I woke up i went to feed the little guys and found them all floating!
I had forgoten to turn the main pump switch on after my repairs last night.
I am so pissed off about it...
I am just so tired latelly I am forgetting little things.
This one turned out to be a big one...

Bugger. Are you going to come clean and tell us how many you lost, or is the pain still a bit strong? Mind you, better now than when they are some what bigger.
Were the deaths from lack of DO from the return from GB's?
