File comment: The pipe closest to the bottom of the pic is for the SLO. The farther one is an overflow. It has an 90deg elbow at the end. A middle section with 4 rows of holes drilled into it. then another T with a short pipe and a drilled end cap, all pointing into the water flow. It exits through the bulkhead through pipe that is built like a bell siphon drain. To create even greater pull. So that I can turn the water over in my FT faster. Almost 1 1/2 times an hour at this point. It will be closer to 2x by the time when it is fully stocked. Just personal preference as the added flow helps keep the tank cleaner.

File comment: Here are my 2 2in bulkheads going through the pool. To add strength (since it is a soft side pool) A aprox 6x6in vinyl repair patch was used on the inside. I filled the pool about 3/4 full to stress the sides before cutting the holes with an X-ACTO knife. The bulkheads were then placed in and the sidewall of a gallon water jug was used as a washer. So the bulkhead could be tightened without wrinkling or tearing the sidewall. I will get a pic of that later.

File comment: Here are a few pics of the FT. It is a 10ft round 33in high round soft sided pool. That I am pretty sure that I am going to get crap over. But I was able to buy it for $80 that's less than a single IBC around here. So I am willing to give it a shot. At the worst the plumbing parts are all reusable. As nothing is glued. So far I like it as it has stayed clean. Although if I were to do it again the bulkheads would have been placed about 2in lower.

Water inlet and airiation

File comment: Crude but efficient venture. the airline just reaches through the inner surface of the pipe. But it is speed sensitive. If the pump is throttled back, you get large bubbles. If it allowed to rum full out no bubbles at all. Before it is asked I throttle back the flow from my pump by diverting some flow back into the ST.

And a added spray bar just for a little added insurance.

I don't think all of those pools have built in algacides/fungicides, but if it did, it could cause problems. You can order virgin liners or use a pond liner to be safe. You aren't running any air at all?

Coach,
I did not see any comment about any algacides/fungicides on the packaging. Plus since it already has a nice layer of bio slime all over it. So if it was there it didn't work too well. I have also seen this pool used in greenwater Aquaponics on many videos before. As for right now I am not running any external air. At the moment there is no need for it. Unless of course the power goes out. It is on the list for a backup air system, just no money for it yet. I purposely used the venturi on the pump outlet. Which is placed about an inch above the bottom of the FT. To help "roll" the water to the surface. The pump outlet at the bottom also seems to help keep the solids on the bottom swept toward the SLO quite nicely. Given that the pool has a large surface area, and relatively shallow depth the amount of air being injected should be more than enough. The spray bar on top is pretty much overkill.

Boss,

I found the bulkheads on Amazon, from LaPonds. After reading a lot of reviews they seem to be a little thicker and longer than the ones I can source locally. They were even cheaper than the Uni-seal warehouse that is 20min from me.

How much does the pool hold about 6,000LT? Looks like you scored a deal at that price if it holds up for you and it should with shade and cover like that too.

Pond_Sucker,

Yeah I scored a deal and it was brand new. You just have to shop wise. I had mind shipped in from Indiana. Their prices were a lot cheaper because their swimming season is over. All the pool companies are trying to ditch this years inventory. Yeah it will hold a little over 1600gal (6000lt) But I do not have it filled to the top. So I can only guesstimate that it is holding approx. 1300 (4921) to 1400gal (5299lt) at the moment. Besides it being inside my screened porch you can also see that I have a heavy tarp that I use to shade the sunny side, and cover the pool; on cold nights. Which is the reason for the extra 2in pvc cross members.

The first pic is of the first barrel to hold my screen material. Second is of the first of 2 RFFs to be run in parallel between the FT and DWCs. So I can split the flow and lengthen the retention time so more particles can drop out. Without slowing the flow from the FT. Plus I would much rather avoid cleaning netting and shade cloth if possible. :funny1: It's not lazy if it's designed in  Hoping to be able to get to the point where I have to clean the netting and shade cloth monthly or less.

The blue barrel in the above pic is actually a 30gal drum cut in half and the lid missing. It is held in place by leftover aluminum crosspiece from the top of a IBC, and 2 zip ties. It is generally designed like the one in Ryan Chattersons backyard thread.

No trouble getting a seal on a round edge? I may have placed them too close to the bottom of a barrel which means no flex.
