Yeah snow is great to play in. But living in it sucks. Time to move south Brian.

Looks beautiful, but it certainly must hinder even basic activities outside.
We have had 35c + nearly all week & tomorrow will be the last of this heat wave.
Mid 20s next week & I can't wait - I will be able to move my indoor trout back outside again.

yep, it's a rpita as I work outside. I needed a few things for my build, that I knew basically where they were, but now way to find anything in a foot of snow

BMN Pond Window Update

Second-layer-concrete-around-Pond-window-from-in-house
Good Morning

Wow, what a day! Pretty cool being snowed in and still being able to work on and move my project forward. It is cool to see this side of the pond coming up to the height of the rest, finally.

Jose Elmore called last night saying, “You know not to put treated wood in a pool!” Don’t worry it isn’t inside the pool. All the rest is temporary and will come out once the concrete hardens.

We had a wonderful and long conversation. Between that phone call and the one the night before with Hugh Simpson you’d might get the impression I was coming out of some sort of shell. Nah, not right this minute, those conversations make me happy and I do feel it is time to grow emotionally again.

Second-layer-concrete-around-Pond-window-Moss-rock-detail. With the foot of snow on the ground and more coming down all day, I didn’t have any selection of rock to work with other than the rocks that were already in the greenhouse. I like this one here. You can see there is lichen on two sides, which will be visible in front of the bio-filters.

I’m building the wall around the pond window out of Quickcrete and very little rock as this is the most precarious wall and needs all the strength it can get. I wish I could have put more steel rebar in it, but the steel is under the snow somewhere. Anther issue I forgot to take into consideration is the selection of pretty rocks for the top edge of the pond are also under the snow, so I did not do a lot of rock-work.

Second-layer-concrete-around-Pond-window-end-of-day-mishap. The top flagstone was cemented in and I was tossing the 80 pound bag of Quickcrete off the steps so we could hose off the other rocks, whoops! I guess it already got a little wet. Just one of the issues working in tight spaces.

Actually I don’t know if those are fossils or what. It’ll be fun to sit in the greenhouse and ponder what went on fifty million years ago out in the backyard.

Welp, I gotta get ready for whatever this day brings. I don’t figure I can work in this snow so I’ll have to go through the same feelings of guilt I went through yesterday morning and call in saying, “This is just too much snow for me.”

I've got an idea for those folks in the midst of a heat wave. Chuck some of these in your greenhouse

anywho, now I have a few more good looking rocks for around the top of the pond. As soon as they defrost I'll make mortar

I don't miss working in that weather. Drop a boulder on your finger our smack it with a hammer in warm weather and it hurts. Do it in 10 degrees, and it hurts a lot more. Coming along Brian.

not only does it hurt but when your fingers defrost, it really starts to hurt, add to that I'm 61, and bruises and cuts don't heal for months. Funny thing is I can't remember where I got half the cuts from. Maybe this is a blessing to go with age

yep, you fall down, break your hip, and it's all downhill from there. My neighbor maintained his 5 acre property by himself, and lived to be 100. Age is just a number my friend. I often wonder who that middle aged guy in the mirror is.lol

not to be more of a braggart but if 5 acres kept him going to 100 what 250 do for me? Or is there a point of diminishing return?

incrementally, you should live to be 5000. We'll just start calling you Methuselah.

Brian,

There is a fun way to find and thaw out the rocks under the snow. http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... aQodejAAOA
