i have had a L shape slo running for awhile now i took it out the other day and noticed there was a lot of solids trapped in the horizontal pipe so i replaced it with a vertical slo the first thing i noticed the water level dropped about 20 to25mm getting a lot more flow now

Hi Skeggs Hope you had a good Christmas ye my thoughts are this system has been slow going the ph has been high for a long time the sp are only small so it's been hard to grow anything decent only just starting to see a change in growth hence the sp are feeding good and also the ph has come down to a decent level it was 8.2 for months until I decided to use a 200 litre blue barrel and add acid and a Venturi and top up with 6.2 ph yes there is gaps in the media as I have pulled a lot of stuff out and starting again some things were failing to grow also I am having an iron deficiency and the iron chelate I have wouldn't make a difference because of the ph only just staring to see a slight change now

Glad things are starting to happen with the new system Rod. That makes sense that the low nutrient load with the small perch over winter was slowing things down. You will be pleased to hear my next project is aquaponics after finishing a new chook pen. Should have a system up and running in the new year. It's been a while
