Looks good .... let us know what your water reading are... even before cycling....

I'm curious what affect the maidenwell will have.... would be good to establish some base line figures.

Hi Rup, the first ph reading was between 7 & 7.3, this was after we had been pumping through the maidenwell for about 3 hrs.

Evening all,

well the water has been in for about 2 weeks, we put 10 goldfish in about a week ago (swear to god they have grown in a week).

Rupe you maybe right, the ph reading is running at around 6.3. We still havent done anything about the biofilter as we are trying to incorporate a layer of limestone if needed.

We are still at the begining so anything is possible yet.

Following is a photo of the first babe for the system. Admittedly it is only an every day bean, and if i own up to the truth i havent put it in very deep. The first GB has seeds planted straight into the maidenwell. The 2nd bed has seeds imbedded into hydroponic growwool, just to see if there is any difference in germination. Little bit worried that the capsicum seed may have ended up as fish food.

There is another question we have.

which would be the best way to go in terms of fertilizer for the plants, Seasol or Urea. Aussieponics had a great response to the urea, although would it be detrimental to the fish?

Sure it wasn't urine?

see the PeePonics thread.

Seasol is not a fertiliser, it is a mineral and trace element supplement derived from seaweed, so is not much use as a fertiliser, but if your plants have plenty of Nitrates and are still struggling, then a dose could perk them up.

I've had good plant grow with "seasol" together with "charlie carp"
This appears to be a fairly common approach.

Thanks Guys,

well we are into our third day of over 40 degrees, this is however part of a week of over 35 degrees with another week to go.

Some of the young lettuce are not coping very well, however the beans seem fine. We have been experimenting with the exhaust fan. The greenhouse has reached 50 degrees on occassions, so we needed to start cooling it down. Probably lost what bacteria had started.

We have tried both extracting the heat and blowing in fresh air in. At this stage the extracting while leaving the door open seems to drop the temperature by upto 5 degrees.
