How time flies... It's been 4 years since I posted on my thread...

I recently did a bit of work on my system, a change that I've been meaning to do for a few years now. I increased the return pipe from sump to fish tank up from 25mm to 40mm. The return line couldn't keep up with the flow coming from the fish tank through the beds sometimes. New pipe is heaps better..

Also put in a battery backup air pump as I'd never put one on the system before.. :dontknow:

I ripped out all the plants and replanted the whole system.. Have now started pumping the feed into the silvers with at least twice a day feeds. There's only about 15 silvers in there but plant growth has been pretty good so far..

The system has been really neglected since the shop started and it's really just been ticking over for at least a couple of years now. I've only fed small amounts and left the plants to go ferrel and self seed. Interesting to see that you can just turn a system around and go from almost hibernation, into rapid growth by pumping the feed back into it..

As promised on another thread, pictures will be coming very soon... :D

Very nice, very nice - certainly plenty of nutrients in such a mature system

Is that a mass of flat leaf parsley or celery? We let the celery go to seed last year in the school system and I think I pulled about 1000 celery seedlings out of a grow bed today trying to thin back to just three decent seedlings. They are also popping up in all the other beds.

That's self seeded parsley... I think.. There was also a couple of celery plants there which could have self seeded, but I'm pretty sure most of it is parsley.

Did a bad thing the other day, after telling soo many people that they should have a tap timer just in case they forget to turn off their taps when topping up systems, I did it myself.. :shifty:

The whole day running into this system... :shifty:

When I got home in the afternoon I noticed the water everywhere.. Two silver perch had jumped ship over the side of the very full tank and the water in the fish tank had a green/blue tinge to it and looked extremely clean..

Still a couple of days later and there have been no losses from the system apart from the 2 jumpers. Just wasted about 8 hours of water though, which is terrible.. I guess that negates a fair bit of my water savings, though I know plenty of people that would water their garden for 8 hours in a week or two. :dontknow:
