Faye, I'll send you folks some seeds to the shop, they should be good to go yet. It would be worth it to watch the growth thru your pic's as I'll be in the snow by then.

Update:
Evacuated Tube Collector still hooked up and piped to the Guppies, it's been aprox 2 months now? Guppies still fine and having babies.
I continue to be plagued with pump issues in the Green House. Nothing I use seems to last long, so I'll shop around once again. It's so frustrating to spend good money on junk.
The baby T's are in a 30 gallon tank and are quickly overcrowding it, having to change 50% of the water every few days. Their old water goes to the green house and their new water comes from the Guppie tank just to not waste it.
I'm using the same fish food for the babies as I do for the big fish, they seem to not care. As the pellets soften in the water they tear off bigger and bigger pieces. I have had one T baby kick the bucket so a 1 percent loss in the ones that I relocated at least.

It happens that a fellow at work has been doing Hydroponics for aprox 12 years. He has a business growing lettuce and supplying a few spots. Impressive set up but sadly, greatly under used. Two green houses one empty (used to grow Tom's), the smaller of the two now just grows Lettuce in a six week seed to harvest rotation. He is getting out of the business in two years, as its to much work for just him. The big green house is ready to buy now, think its 40' by 130', I forget. I'm not sure its a go for me as the better half would require at least 30 years of foot rubs in compensation, but his first price of 20K did not sound unreasonable.
sigh, yep still dreaming, still dreaming.

Just went back to re-familiarise myself with your evac tube setup...nice to know it is working well for you John

Must start doing something about heating my system (now that the winter is nearly over  ), best I look closer at what Rope's doing

30 years of foot rubs for a GH, sure she doesn't want to trade for something more entertaining

Going to be taking a break, nothing much different on my end. Lost three gold fish from talapia abuse, ate one T after purging Him for a few days. I did not like the taste so next one will get a full week purge. Guppies and baby T's are together but will need to be moved to the basement for the winter.
I'll not be heating the green house this winter so more then likely any plants will die off, who knows.
Take care every one and stay safe.
Keep em honest Les! :brilsmurf:

Happy Thanksgiving weekend GF!

We had snow very early this year but it leveled off and the past few days have been very nice. Good weather for heavy lifting for AP reconfiguring.

No hybernation c1, playing the stock market, and training the new pup not to bite daddy. She is smart as a whip but like's to bite me with them sharp puppie teeth.
A few more days like today dave and I might just dig a new hole in the ground for a pond, its like mid forties here today, sweet!
Seriously though I have been just feeding the fish, not growing much to talk about this winter, a few peas to snack on, a couple lettuce and some onions. Haven't really had the ambition to revamp yet. The baby T's are just kept on a maintence level in the basement, purging two adults, may or may not eat them and have four female T's still in the green house with the perch goldfish and bullheads. The Baby koi are in the garage. I think I have to many fish, at least the better half thinks so. Spose shes right.

I have been heating the green house again this winter, contrary to an earlier post. Happened the other day I went to check the temp and the heater had gone out during the night. The four T's were all floating on the bottom, I sighed and went off to work as I did not have the time to do anything about it. Three hours later on an early lunch, I netted the aparently dead T's and took them to the basement system. Since they were not stiff I pondered, should I clean em for a meal or toss them in the tank with the males and hope they came out of it. I tossed them in the tank and went back to work. Well, they are sure tough bastages cause they all survived. Don't know what the water temp was they were subject to but it was below 50 to be sure.
So thats all I have been up too, teasing my fish and training my dog.

Hello John.

I stopped posting for a long time, but I am back now. I harvested my fish in Sept 2008 and froze/ate about 200 (channel cats and hybrid blue gill). My yellow perch all died when I had the water quality/disease problem in June 2008. Are you still doing yellow perch? My system was drained for the winter and I just coated the tank with Permatex (urethane rubber) to stop the alkali leaching I was having trouble with. My new batch of fish arrive May 9th, 2009. They are 200 channel catfish, 200 hybrid blue gill, and 50 yellow perch. I am hoping for success with the perch now that I have better filtration.

I have not been following along at BYAP, so excuse my ignorance about your perch.

I have been following your return and updates from a distance Doug, never have or make much time to comment, life has me busy elsewhere. Seems like your doing well in getting your system ready for another go.
I still have some perch but only 8, lost one last week for no apparent resason. I have not been very responsible in trying to get some breeding done with them. I have missed the egg strands again this year.
I'm taking it slow thinking more of sustainability in closing the loop. Grow lettuce, Feed lettuce to the T's. Feed T's to the perch. and the last should be easy. I eat the Perch.
I am finding it difficult to do any of that though. The lettuce part is easy but Im getting a bit soft because I havent feed the perch any T's. I must get over the (I cant eat my pets), problem I have.
Don't be a stranger!
