SP fingerlings settling into their new surroundings after a week - been putting in some duckweed of a night, normally all gone the next morning

Fish kill to date - zero losses

Update on SP fingerlings:
Week 1 & 2 all was going well
Ammonia - 0
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 60
pH - 7.2

Week 3 - started finding dead fish (one a day)
these were the runts of the litter so thought they were probably missing out on feed...end of week fish loss now at 5 and pH 6.4

Decided that surviving fish had no diseases, so transferred them to the other sump tank (which is connected to the main tank).
Fish have been there for over a week now and all is fine again

Problem seems to have been a build up of uneaten food, due to the fish size, I had been crushing the pellets and a lot of it had not been eaten nor been picked up by the pump :evil5:
(another good point for using venturi drains and round fish tanks  )

Was amazed at the size difference in some of the fingerlings when I caught and moved them, some are quite large compared to the average - so there is good growth going on.

So next BYAP project - install a smaller round tank to be used as a fingerling tank, using the existing sump tank has "limitations"

Sounds good old boy. Must go and check my pH

I have a partial solution to the uneaten fish food issue - but am not inclined to share it with you  :P

Still not sure why I was so passive in letting you remove it from my garage

Might have to give me mate a ring up near Woombye and see how much for an aquaplated one - one single sheet wrapped should be around a meter in diameter and hold 800 odd litres

Then have to get onto TT and see how he managed to sneak his shiny new tank into the garage

May not need a tank that big Les. What sort of size do you want to grow them to before putting in your big tank?

:tongue2:

Definitely believe you have the right idea of having a separate tank for fingerlings - less stress on the fish when they are so young.

Have started planning an update on the system as you can see from the above comments

les,
the seperate tanks for fingerlings....is that because they are being attacked?

ive found that in my indoor tank...the 2 biggest will fight and the "loser" will attack the smaller sp's....
