Francois, your maggots eat better than I do!

What stops them from crawling out of their resort? Do you have velcro strips along the top edges?

Francois your photos are amazing. I think we are all becoming BSF converts!
I was wondering - were all those fish photos taken in one day?

Regards, Martin.

Hello Francois,

Black Soldier Fly are simply amazing eating machines. How long to finish off the goldfish?

At some point, I will have to have a play with them and see if I can get useable fish food supplementation.

Hi PLJ
I feed waste I get/buy from a vegetable shop.
lots of the stuff still edible...bsfl love the veggie and fruit
so they eat well
those are plastic strips to keep larvae from crawling over the sides.
i have 2 buckets one on each ends and that is where i collect the crawled off larvae.

Howdy all, chiming a bit late but for Martin: yes, the BSFL can be frozen to feed the fish (or chooks) later in the season. They sell maggots at pet stores that have been harvested and flash frozen.

Francois, would you take more pics of the construction of the BSFL contraption you have there? It looks fairly sturdy and very, very productive.

I've tried different types of construction but haven't had any luck. Might give your setup a go out by my chicken and rabbit house.

Thanks for posting those pics. For some people, it would turn their stomach. For me, I can imagine the possibilities of the chook food for feeding in winter.
