temps and trout were the main feature of my thoughts while at wok today ;)

local ambient temp at 4pm 29.7C
water temp 21C

trout status: happy as a fish in an AP system (not Emirs) :)

Thats good to hear Steve. I think over the next few months its going to be very interesting to see how all those with trout fare with regards to water temps.

i'm not too impressed with the rise in water temp, although it is a good 8C behind the ambient, its only been one day, and we do have 28C days :(

Wow, you are pushing it with those temps for trout.. My water is only 17C after the heat today, but the baby silvers were just about chewing their heads off. Can't remember if you have heating, a gh giving you thermal heat transfer or none of the above.

believe me, i wasn't expecting A) an ambient of more than 27C and B) the tank temp to reach 21!

all is well though, for now, just gotta find some 1/2 inch npt s/s fittings and finnish off that chiller :)

i tellya, all my heat gain comes from the growbed.

oh, Doh!, prolly should have covered the black polly pipes leading from the ibc to the trout tank and the GB's considering the sun today! LOL

Steve, I know it's been suggested but do you think the use of bath tubs for growbeds/tanks increases the transfer of ambient heat?

Would perhaps hazard a guess that it would for anything other than the steel tubs?

Steve wrap your poly in alfoil, I bet that is where the heat is coming from.
Also start freezing 2ltr cordial bottles of water.
Pop one in before you go to work and one when you get back.

Steve, put sh!t loads of fish in a small amount of water and turn off the air. That should work well, trust me.

Rule of thumb- when the moon is increasing in size or about to then above ground growth will happen the oposite for root crops.
But there are special days for seed bearing plants (tommies capsicum etc)
Must plant lettuce before the new moon.

Lyndsay just delivered the 70 SP, two floaters but he added 4 extra to cover any losses ;)

he had a DO meter with him so he chucked it in my tank and i was stoked to find that the DO was about 8.8ppm. pretty much saturation for the temp!
