Good on ya mate, best thing I ever did. The thing is you live to your means, I had no more money in the bank when I was working mining than I do now but my life is so much richer now I have time. On an hourly rate basis I am actually no worse off, I just work a lot less hours :thumbleft:

So what's the new game?

G'day Seamonkey, how are ya? Moved down to your property yet ? I'm still catching up on people's threads.

Hi Burnsy. Yeah fully agree mate, though still adjusting to the smaller numbers! Gettin' into warehousing/logistics/transport. Amazing how hard it is to get people to take you seriously and even consider talking to you about an advertised position. It's been a very frustrating year in that regard, but things are taking a turn for the better now. Just finished up 6 months as a storeman with a outdoor power equipment spare parts supplier and about to start a new position with Clearpond.

Ill be in the same boat next year, Chilli. Its not going to be easy as mining/maintenance is all Ive ever done. Hopefully my maintenance experience can lead me into something a little more time forgiving and local.

Often thought about how nice a job like that would be, when you go home you go home, no calls, worries or stress to take with you, drove a truck for a while in Kal and it was like that. Been spoilt by 12 weeks holidays a year now though and would not trade regular holidays with my kids for anything.

So do I :) couldn't earn the same wage as a minor with 6 extra weeks pay though (even though I'm paid for the 6 weeks)

How do you find your tomatoes grow? Obviously a mature system. Haven't read your thread but do you add things to your water?

Hi Chillidude - good to see you back.

I have just managed to change career myself - best thing I have done.

Good luck with your change.

G'day Arbe - good to see you're still around and now a mod as well (smart choice Joel !)

Mate, I remember what you were doing, what have you moved to ? ( I think it's a shame we seem to have our mid-life crises now without the red convertible porsche 911 and the well endowed blonde !!).

Hi Jayandra - yeah, system is four years old now and was pushed hard during 2011 and 2012. The system is on the north side of the house and for the previous two summers my tomatoes have been crap! However, having eliminated other options I concluded that it was simply the heat on the expanded clay that was killing them. This summer I have put up a sail that covers 90% of the growbeds and the tomatoes are going nuts, so it looks like I finally got it right.

The only thing I add to the system besides the fish feed is about half a cup of Seasol once every eight weeks or so (and that's to about 7,500 litres of water (it's grown a little since I started the thread)).

I'm in a red vehicle but its not a convertible porche, it's a Case 8120 Harvester.

Have moved out to the wheat belt.

We have lots of ex-mine employees heading out into the Wheatbelt looking to bed down what few full time positions are available at the moment. Its hotter than hell out here sometimes but they're the smart ones I reckon. The mining boom is now a bust. Perth property is ridiculously overpriced. Wheatbelt houses are cheap. Jim Rogers, the legendary investor who wrote the book 'Investment Biker' reckons all stockbrokers should throw away their degrees and begin studying agriculture. Tought times are ahead unfortunately thanks to politicians and corrupt bankers.
