Bugger........

How many fish have you got in there Jessy?

We have found that lately the Ebara pumps have been causing some issues. It seems that they have gone down hill over the past couple of years and due to issues we have had with the reliability, especially over recent months we will no longer be supplying them as either part of our large systems, or as items for sale in our shop. We are keeping all our existing stocks off the shelf, only as replacements for those that have troubles.

Currently we are trialling another sump pump. In the week or two we will be making an announcement on the website about it. We will be offering a compatible pump but a different brand to all customers who have bought ebara pumps from us in the past, these will be offered at below cost price. We'll be suggesting that people replace the original ebaras and keep them as a spare pump.

It's very unfortunate, they used to be a good pump when I first started using them.

EB , Thankyou for the spare you sent last year, as that one was my saving grace this morning.

For the record, the barra tasted excellent....they have been purged for the last few day's due to lack of food, waiting for a drop off. Their guts was full of fat..which to the black fellas was amazing and a delicacy. So a brilliant feed

no more barra died, which was great.

Thought I might share with some of you a really quick way to oxygenate the water when the main fish tank water is all lost....sounds so simple, but I have never read of it in the forum....

Pull out all the stand pipes, and plug in the main pump with no timer, put the hose in so the water quickly floods the GB, and back to the main tank.

I have lost the main tank water that may times in the last 18 months, I don't panic anymore...just shake my head, put the hose in the tank, pull stand pipes out, and wait and see. This has been my biggest lost to date , for the main tank. And the remaining fish are eating again, so I must be doing something right in the saving department.

Anouther Tip I will be doing, is cutting the mainfish tank pump PVC, and allowing clearence of a milk crete. If I would of had that, no fish would of been lost  Yes it doesn't help getting all the solids off of the bottom, but, I think I will give it ago, for now anyway. It will save the barra's anyway

Someone, I think maybe OBO posted a pic of a way to keep a pump from sucking all the water out of a tank without giving up having the pump on the bottom where it would collect more of the solids. But I don't know if it works in all pump configurations.

Personally, I'm quite fond of CHIFT PIST to avoid ever running a fish tank dry but that can be a big conversion for a system that is already set up. (However, converting mine wasn't as terrible as all that.)

Did I? I am now trying to think of a way to do it lol :D

AAH thats right.

Place a breather tube from the pump inlet to the desired minimum water level height.

You have to restrict the inlet a bit to make sure that there is some suction on the breather pipe, so when the water level reaches the breather it sucks in air, and severely slows the pumping amount.

Protect the breather so a fish cant get stuck to it, and your safe :)

Turn the pump sideways? Tubeless version of the same.
I think Frank proposed it but my pump did it on its own. Saves a few inches anyway.

Sorry to hear about the losses Jessy

The pic below is what I did for my FT pump. This raises it of the bottom by about 250 - 300mm. I trialed it prior to fish and the worst level I got was 400mm of water left in the tank. I have since adjusted my float switch as well so I would have even more water left after a HSM. This still manages to clean the crap of the bottom ok as well.
