Very cool CD,, it looks like there are many trout harvests being shared this year, it is a great lead for the AP newbies. I think a lot wait until it's too late, after all it is about having a feed if you are growing trout.

Thanks Faye & Rupe.

Yeah, I agree with your above comment Faye - think some people get a little too focussed on trying to grow every fish to maximum size to maximise production.

I've said elsewhere, a 300g fish is a good plate size and I start taking them out when the average is that size. After 500g they don't fit in my big-assed frying pan so they're inconvenient. If you take them out between those two sizes, it's a good combination of practicality and risk management.

My exception to the above paragraph would be where you are able to grow a species year-round.

Chilidude, is you system constant level in the grow tanks? I am trying to understand the difference
in the fill, drain vs constant level and the size systems that support constant water level.

The size of the system doesn't dictate whether there is a constant level in the fish tanks....

The methodology employed does.... hence the development of Chift Pist/Chop....

I understand the fill, drain system adds more oxygen to the grow tank than the same water flow rate into a grow tank with constant water hight. so there would need to be compensation for flow in larger tanks that is constant water hight. If I understand it correctly. I have been wrong once when I wrongly thought I was wrong. Is there a minimum tank replenish time in a constant hight GB?

A constant height in the fish tank methodology.... is still only the water distribution method... the flood.....

The "drain" is still done by siphon/standpipe... so the oxygenation remains the same...

If you mean tank volume turnover.. then 1 -1.5 times an hour... is optimal....

G'day EB, Faye, Charlie and everybody else on the forum.

Wake up? Cheeky bugger - I've been working like a dog over the last 18 months!

Gone cold turkey getting out of the f#&$king mining industry and started building a whole new career starting from the bottom.

System has been going well with only four catfish in it for the last 16 months! Growth has been nothing less than amazing during that whole time. I'm assuming there's an abundance of solids getting broken down by the worms and still fertilising/mineralising the system (I ran 120 trout in winter 2012 and they produced a lot of solids, believe me).

First, wrap your mind around a 75% pay cut and go from there....

You gotta get to that point where you no longer give a frack about the money, and buy into the consequences!
