Awesome harvest Chillidude! Nice cauliflower... and beetroot. I had awesome beetroot in my first year but all other attempts have failed as the seedlings just get munched by something. Mice or birds I suspect :(

Note to self... plant some cauliflower next winter...

Lookin great chilli!

Question for you = my mates system in esperance had a massive crop of cameron apple, none where ready to eat but he said they were a very tasty fruit, a quick search showed you have grown them, how did you go with them?

He gave me one of his so hopefully I have some success as I believe they are a plant for the cooler months

I'd recommend 'em more for dirt or wicking beds as the plant puts out quite a dense and broad root base.

The fruit tasted OK, kinda like rockmelon (that's cantaloupe for the yanks) but nothing particularly special. I'd grow rockmelon instead - more of the same flavour for less picking effort.

Also, something about the plant attracted ants and mine ended up with a huge ant next inside it (eggs and everything) so I pulled it out. I haven't had any significant number of ants in the GBs before or after that plant.

So, overall, I personally wouldn't bother with them again, but I don't want to discourage people from trying something new (the ants may just have been a problem unique to my location).

The system hasn't seemed quite right the last few days, so I haven't feed them since Wednesday, even though they had been feeding well. I ran a water test Saturday and noticed there was a little (0.5) ammonia showing - obviously the filter not coping with the load as there were no dead fish in the system anywhere.

So pulled another 10 out - largest ran to 570g (and there's definitely bigger fish swimming around in the remaining 70) ....

Well done Chilli, an awesome harvest.
How do you dispatch them?
Did you test the nitrate levels as well?

Yep, they were good, but there was trace nitrites so there's been a recent surge in ammonia. It may be tbecause I had a three day weekend last week and fed them twice a day on each of the three days - they usually only average once a day. So the extra feed over a few days may have caused the spike.

We ate our first ones a couple of weeks ago - trout amandine - beautiful

And the 10 just above have gone in the freezer for eating over summer.
